This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S.  Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a Library & Research Services Manager to join our team in Seattle. This position is responsible for leading all aspects of firm-wide electronic and print legal research services which includes but is not limited to: long-range strategic planning, development of cost-effective and efficient digital and print formats, budget development and control, technology development and implementation, and supporting attorneys’ and business development department’s information needs.

Your contribution to the team includes
  • Providing leadership and direction to the Library & Research team members, including establishing priorities, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and reporting status. 
  • Managing the firm’s information resources operations. Align department strategy with the firm’s overall business strategy, and developing short and long-term goals, policies and procedures. 
  • Managing staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs, complete bi-annual check-in process, and make recommendations regarding annual salary adjustments and bonus considerations.
  • Fostering and encouraging inter- and intra-departmental communication and collaboration.
  • Marketing and visibly promoting the Information Resource Center through seminars, workshops and training, both on an individual and group basis. 
  • Balancing workload within and across teams by ensuring employees are taking on responsibilities appropriately, and ensuring the right people are in the right roles.
  • Empowering employees to provide constructive feedback, take ownership of their areas of responsibility, and share their expertise with the team.
  • Developing and monitoring department budget and maintaining financial controls.
  • Continually remaining abreast of innovative, cost-effective developments in legal research capabilities for law firms.  Partner with Information Services and Technology team, attorneys and other administrative departments to evaluate and recommend new and/or improved tools.  
Join us if you have
  • 5+ years’ library management experience. Masters of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program preferred.
  • Proven experience supervising teams and processes; demonstrated ability to motivate and provide meaningful coaching and mentorship to provide top level service within an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience managing all aspects of a library, e.g. automated and print research and reference services, training and instruction to users. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of legal and business informational resources, including automated applications, the Internet, and print media. 
  • Ability to work with attorneys, managers and staff at all levels in a firm; demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team player and exercise independent judgment when dealing with challenging situations. 
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining positive working relationships with vendors; demonstrated experience negotiating contracts to achieve the best possible rates and terms. 
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, courteous manner with clients, firm members, and other business contacts. 
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel to other offices as needed.
