Job Description

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a full-time, mid-level contract attorney with consumer litigation experience to join our alternative-track attorney program, DWTSurge. The ideal candidate will be a litigation attorney with experience in all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation and settlement. The position entails work on arbitrations so experience with, e.g., AAA or JAMS, is a plus. Candidates should be able to operate with a high level of independence, possess strong client service abilities, and exercise good judgment as part of a highly collaborative team.

Attorneys who are looking for more flexibility in their career and who have four or more years of experience in litigation at mid-sized or large law firms are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to independently handle a high-volume of consumer arbitration and/or litigation matters, and have substantial brief-writing and stand-up experience. Attorneys who are looking for remote work are encouraged to apply.

The selected resource will provide dedicated support to a high-profile client with minimal risk of diversion to the other litigation needs of the broader practice group. Candidates can expect to work closely with DWT attorneys and staff as part of a collaborative team providing high-value legal services to the firm’s clients. Attorneys who can work independently but also collaborate easily with lawyers and support staff to meet discrete litigation objectives under short deadlines will be successful in this role.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 4+ years of litigation experience in a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients
  • Residency and active bar admission to practice in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC
  • Experience managing and working independently on a high-volume of litigation or arbitration matters, without close supervision or instruction
  • Experience interfacing directly with large institutional clients
  • Availability to work a full-time schedule, up to 40 hours per week, remotely
  • Strong ability to represent the client and the firm when conferring with various stakeholders and when navigating all steps of the litigation process
  • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy
  • Significant brief-writing experience

The contract engagement is anticipated to be six-months in duration. There is a possibility of extension before or at the end of the initial six-month contract term, and potential for the opportunity to grow into a long-term engagement. We are looking for someone interested in an ongoing, flexible working relationship with DWT.

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This is a benefitted role. Due to the structure of the DWTSurge program, DWTSurge employees are not eligible for the firm’s pro bono, DEI, and other activities or opportunities outside of the above stated scope of work. We are interested in candidates electing to pursue a more flexible way of providing continuous, high-value legal services to the firm and our clients. If you are interested in a more traditional law firm position, please check the DWT careers page for lateral opportunities.
