Commercial Litigation Contract Attorney
Job Description
Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has an exciting contract opportunity to help support and manage a high-volume of commercial litigation cases for numerous clients. We’re seeking a part-time, mid-level litigation attorney in the NYC metropolitan area to join our alternative-track attorney program, DWTSurge. The selected attorney will be responsible for drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery, working directly with clients and opposing counsel, developing litigation strategy, and supporting a range of large-scale commercial clients with specific litigation activities.
Attorneys who are looking for more flexibility in their career and who have five or more years of experience practicing commercial litigation at mid-sized or large law firms are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be barred in NY, be well-versed in New York Civil Practice Law and Rules, and have experience litigating in New York State Court. Attorneys who are looking for remote work and a more flexible reduced schedule averaging 15 to 25 hours per week are encouraged to apply.
The chosen resource will focus on litigation matters for large institutional clients of the firm and will be dedicated to specific workstreams with minimal risk of diversion to other litigation needs of the broader practice group. Candidates can expect to work closely with DWT attorneys and staff as part of a collaborative team providing high-value legal services to the firm’s clients. Attorneys who can work independently but also collaborate easily with lawyers and support staff to meet discrete litigation objectives under short deadlines will be successful in this role.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of commercial litigation experience in a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients
- Residency and active bar admission in New York; Attorneys living in CT or NJ who are admitted to practice in NY will also be considered
- Experience litigating in New York State Court system and familiarity with the New York Civil Practice Law & Rules
- Availability to work an average of 15-25 hours per week, remotely
- Confidence in representing clients and our firm while meeting and conferring with internal DWT partners, client stakeholders, and opposing counsel
- Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy
- Ability to distill research into meaningful and persuasive written work product, as well as to work meticulously to ensure work product quality
The contract engagement is anticipated to be six-months in duration. There is a possibility of extension before or at the end of the initial six-month contract term, and potential for the opportunity to grow into a long-term engagement. We are looking for someone interested in an ongoing, flexible working relationship with DWT.
Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible contract attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). Due to the reduced schedule for the role, benefits are not offered. We are interested in candidates electing to pursue a more flexible way of providing continuous, high-value legal services to the Firm and our clients. If you are interested in a more traditional law firm position, please check the DWT careers page for lateral opportunities.
SALARY RANGE:
The hourly range for this position in New York is $120 to $150 per/hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
